About a month ago we brought Jacob to Chik-fil-a with these great discount shirts we have. Every day that we wear the shirt to Chik-fil-a we get a FREE sandwich or nuggets. (Not bad for a whole year of free chicken for only $22 a shirt.) Anyway, about 10 of us were all wearing these shirts and sitting together and the manager came over and took a polaroid picture. Then he took one of Jacob alone and labeled it "Our youngest fan." Jacob was looking all chubby and sweet and had lots of chicken in front of him - the perfect family-friendly restaurant advertisement.
Recently we went back to Chik-fil-a and the manager came up again and said, "Oooh! Our youngest fan! We LOVE him. We keep his picture in the back and look at it all the time. Especially Miss. So-and-so, the owner, and when she went to the national Chik-fil-a convention she showed his picture to the son of Mr. S. Truett Cathy. He's the founder of Chik-fil-a, you know."
Now I know that's very different from Jacob encountering an actual famous person, but hey, for a 13 month old, that's not bad! And Chik-fil-a is a great company! Closed on Sundays. Company motto is "To glorify God..." Not too shabby to be the local representative to its founder's son!
The closest I've gotten to a celebrity is seeing L.L. Cool J on a blimp in the NYC Thanksgiving day parade along with a million other people from very very far away. Sigh.
Andre Braugher (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Homicide, City of Angels) rented our house for a year when I was in high school, but the closest I got to him was hearing him talk to my dad on the phone, and seeing his signature on rent checks. Not too thrilling. My sister and I were super excited that his Emmy might be sitting on our mantle though.
However, I'm beginning to think that my 13 month old might be more popular than me.
